Should You Reconsider Your Home Owners Insurance?

Several stories that have appeared in the news lately have lead to this story.  Your Home Owners Insurance Policy provides protection for the structure and its contents as well as protection for your liability to those that visit your property.  Most people think along the lines of someone falling as the reason for needing liability coverage.

Do you have a swimming pool or hot tub?

You don’t even have to be home for a pool or hot tub problem to expose you to hundreds of thousands of dollars in liability.

Your coverage for the exposure to an accident related to your pool is the largest in dollar value.  What is the current limit to your coverage?  Could an accident in your backyard lead to the loss of your home and future earnings?  It could, if you aren’t adequately covered.

Home owners with a pool and or a spa on their property face challenges every day that include compliance with building codes and ordinances, keeping up-to-date with new products and techniques, and balancing safety with their design dreams.

If a water related accident occurs on your property many related items will be considered when lawyers build a case against your care in relation to your pool or spa.  All swimming pools – from the luxury in-ground variety to the simplest inflatable wading pool, can present a danger, especially to children.
Consider having a pool company review your pool to make sure it complies with current regulations and municipal codes. Do not rely on a “grandfather” clause as protection.

Home liability insurance is one of the most important coverage options a homeowner can include on their policy; it’s also one of the cheapest options to add. There are plenty of ways to protect your home with homeowners insurance; hazard insurance, content insurance, etc. If there are damages to your home or personal belongings, your insurance will cover the financial cost of it. But what about you? What coverage protects you if you (or a guest) are injured on your property?

That’s where home liability insurance comes in. Accidents happen, and if they occur in or around your property, it generates personal liability exposure.  Let us review your policy and make recommendations that will add protection for you and your family.
