Bennett Insurance Group Presents: Scottsdale International Auto Museum

Metrocenter has something new in the mall that’s sure to keep collector car enthusiasts’ engines revving year-round.

The Scottsdale International Auto Museum has parked its multimillion-dollar vintage car collection in a 7,000-square-foot space at the Phoenix shopping center.

The company’s weekly car shows and quarterly auctions, which regularly drew crowds of roughly 10,000 to its former location at the Pavilions at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, will keep cruising in Metrocenter’s parking lots.

The first auction, scheduled for March 15-16, will feature dozens of rare collectables. One is the blue 1936 Lincoln Model K limousine sedan once owned by American icon Howard Hughes, who later redesigned it to have the look and feel of both automobile and airplane. Today, it’s appraised at $3.5 million. Another is the 1988 Chevy Lumina Nascar #51 “Mello Yello” that was used in the 1990 hit film “Days of Thunder” with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. It’s valued at $350,000.

The museum, located inside the mall, is slated to open in mid February and will have 35 to 50 vintage automobiles, roughly worth a combined $5 million, on display at all times.
